This somewhat asymmetrical monstrosity was a symbolic look at space travel as seen through the eyes of artists in the '50s and '60s. The tripod's main beams contain sequentially smaller cut-outs, that are reminiscent of both orbiting moons, and structural steel beams within a spacecraft. The three oversized supports can be landing pods, or rocket thrusters - take your pick. Also, I would invite people to stand inside the piece. This made me think of Star Treks' transporters... "Beam me up, Scotty!"

"Space" was made primarily out of wood, but the pods were fiberglass. I had to make myself an original mold, and then 3 copies. Oh - this was for a third year sculpture class at York University.

In this photo, you can see the sculpture reflected in a pond, at the back of our property in the country. I have NO idea what happened to this piece. But, alas - art is not eternal...
