Let Me Know - KISS, 1974

Let me, let me
Let me be your Sunday driver
Let me be your Monday man
I'll take you anywhere you want
Just as fast as I can

It doesn't matter what you wanna do
It doesn't matter where you wanna go
Just gotta decide girl and let me know

Oh, did you ever want lovin', so you're callin'
Up your baby and she's stallin' with the neighbours
And the night keeps gettin' longer
And the urge keeps getting stronger
So your tryin' and your dyin' and you're wonderin' does she love you
A knock comes at your door
Let me in honey

Let me
Let me be your Tuesday taxi
Let me be your Wednesday boy
I'll be your lovin' man
You'll be my bundle of joy
And oh
It doesn't matter what you wanna do
It doesn't matter where you wanna go
You just gotta decide girl and let me know

And then you let me know...

I was never much of a KISS fan back in the day, but much the way Disco has grown on me, so has the ego-driven music of this iconic band. After watching Gene Simmons in Family Jewels on TV, I've actually become a real fan... although, maybe not a member of the KISS Army...

KISS was formed in New York City in 1972. The costumes and makeup were designed to portray four different comic book-like characters. Lead singer Paul Stanley was the Starchild, Gene Simmons was the Demon, Ace Frehley was the Spaceman and drummer Peter Criss was the Catman. The band gave up the makeup in the early 80s, and ended up dumping Frehley and Criss. However, old habits die hard, I guess, because by the 1990s, the makeup was back with a flurry of nostalgia.

Let Me Know is off the first, self-titled KISS album in 1974. I re-discovered this song a year ago, and it's been getting a workout in the 1970s section of my iPod. For some reason, I often end up picking songs from a band's debut album; perhaps the raw hunger and excitement is at its strongest right out of the gate.

Some interesting facts about KISS:

The band has never been nominated to the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. However, some 200 fans demonstrated in front of the building in 2006.

In 2002, they appeared as themselves on That 70s Show.

In 1982, Ace Frehley left the band, and was almost replaced by Eddie Van Halen, who was having difficulties getting along with another walking ego, David Lee Roth... this according to Gene Simmons.

On the song Calling Dr. Love, the background vocals were done by Katey Sagal - Peggy Bundy from Married with Children
