Hey Saint Peter - Flash and the Pan, 1979
The morning was cold and lonely I said, Hey, hey, hey, St. Peter I said, Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, St. Peter |
Harry Vanda and George Young were Australian musicians from a very popular mid-sixties rock band known as the Easybeats. After that band's demise, the two worked together on a New Wave project called Flash and the Pan. The band's initial offering was the 1979 self-titled release, and with its single Hey St. Peter looking like their only success, the similarity of their name to the expression "flash in the pan" looked like more than a coincidence. In 1983, however, Flash and the Pan scored again with Waiting for a Train, and another release, Walking in the Rain was covered by an 80s celebrity, Grace Jones. By the way, if the Australian surname name "Young" sounds familiar, you may be thinking of Angus and Malcolm Young of AC/DC... Well - George is their older brother. In fact, he helped produce some of their albums. Connections: the other band from the Young family, AC/DC. |
