Money Back Guarantee - Five Man Electrical Band, 1972

Well, I sat down in front of my TV set
And some man said this is what you get
For a dollar a week, and a dollar down
You can drive this car anywhere in this town
You can take it on the highway, check the tires
Leave it in the driveway, and check out the wires
If that ain’t just what your heart desires
I tell you what I’m gonna do

Oh - take it on a ten day trial
And if you don’t like what you see
Just bring it on back in awhile
And get your money back guarantee

I took me for a walk and I heard some racket
Here was some dude, he was peddling a gadget
He said my new invention will do your chores
Take out your garbage and wax your floors
Just plug it in the wall, it’s completely automatic
Hang it in the hall, or you can hide it in the attic
I don’t what no friction, I don’t need no static
So here’s what I’m gonna do

Take it on a ten day trial
And if you don’t like what you see
Well you can bring it on back in awhile
And get your money back guarantee

It’s hard to believe this is my love song
I only hope I didn’t take too long
But this here’s the point I’ve been workin’ up to
True fine Mama, I do love you
And if you open up your heart, I think you’ll find
I’ll treat you good and I’ll treat you kind
If lovin’ me ain’t what you have in mind
I’ll tell you what I’m gonna do

Whoa - take it on a ten day trial
And if you don’t like what you see
Just bring it on back in awhile

And if you don’t like what you see
Well you can bring it on back in awhile

And get your money back guarantee

The Staccatos were a mid-1960s band from Ottawa, who were gaining popularity in Toronto's Yorkville scene. With the backing of Coca-Cola, they shared an album with the Guess who, on Nimbus Records, called A Wild Pair. Despite all the hype, the Staccatos eventually failed due to their similarity to the Beach Boys. The group then changed its name to Five Man Electrical Band and started to get exposure in Los Angeles. But even deals with Capital Records, MGM and the release of their soon-to-be famous single Signs, the band didn't go anywhere.

In 1971, however, they signed with an independent label called Lion Records, and re-released Signs - and sold 2 million copies worldwide. They followed this up with Absolutely Right, I'm A Stranger Here, my Halloween favourite, Werewolf, and Money Back Guarantee. By 1973, the band was burned out, but vocalist Les Emmerson continued on with the name until 1975... after that, he pursued a solo career, notably releasing the Canadian single, Cry Your Eyes Out.

The Five Man Electric Band got together in 1986 for a one-time benefit concert, but this has led to sporadic appearances from time to time.
