Your Imagination - Brian Wilson, 1998

Another car running fast
Another song on the beach
I take a trip through the past
When summer’s way out of reach
Another walk in the park
When I need something to do
And when I feel all alone
Sometimes I think about you

You take my hand
Smile and say you don’t understand
To look in your eyes
And see what you feel
And then realize that nothing’s for real
‘Cause you know it’s just

Your imagination running wild (running running running) x3

Another bucket of sand
Another wave and the pier
I miss the way that I used
To call the shots around here
You know it would’ve been nice
If I had something to do
I took a trip through the past
And got to spend it with you

You take my hand
Smile and say you don’t understand
To look in your eyes
And see what you feel
And then realize that nothing’s for real
‘Cause you know it’s just

Your imagination running wild (running running running) x3

Run run run run

Your imagination running wild...

In 1961, Brian Wilson formed The Beach Boys with his brothers Carl and Dennis. The creative energy behind the project, Brian was also the lead singer, and primary song-writer.

Besides being the leader of the world's greatest surfer band, Brian Wilson was also noted for his struggles with mental health issues. Starting in 1970, he spent three years in his bedroom sleeping, taking drugs, and overeating. In later years, Brian was diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder, and his plight was immortalized by a Toronto band named The Barenaked Ladies, who released the song Brian Wilson in 1992.

In 1988, Brian launched a solo career based on his earlier music, but met with only limited success. He was still fighting various legal battles, drug addiction and even stage fright. In 1998, he released Imagination, featuring mostly new material. The single, Your Imagination, is a nostalgic look back at the popular surfing music of the early 1960s, and the heyday of Brian's career.

Brian's two daughters, Carnie and Wendy, grew up to form their own band with the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas. The new group was aptly named Wilson Philips.

Connections: here's Brian's old surfing band from the 1960s, The Beach Boys, plus - the other proud parents of Wilson Phillips, from the The Mamas & The Papas.
